WOYWW - 18 April 2012

Once again it is Wednesday and time for the Craft World to have a look through the Square Window (otherwise known as the computer monitor) at Craft desks all over the world as part of "Whats On Your Workdesk Wednesday".  If you are not sure what I am on about you really need to visit Julia at Stamping Ground to find out all of the details.

So here is my desk this week...


Ok, this may look a little strange, but I will explain all.

Yesterday I wanted to take photos of 4 cards that I finished on Monday evening (click here to see the cards) so that I could post them before going to bed.

After trying several different ways of placing cards to take photos, this is the best way I have found.  I have 3 pieces of 12 x 12 card stock: Black or White - used to create the background; Beige - used to create a base.  The Black/White card is held against my Hougie Board using a bulldog clip and the board is balanced on the desk.  The beige card is placed on my cutting matt and the card is then added and a photo taken.

Once the photo has been saved onto the computer I then crop it down and compress it before uploading it to Blogger.

As for the rest of the desk, well it is still a bit of a mess and really does need a tidy - I really is a good job that the Hougie Board is placed where it is as the bin still has not been emptied (I really must do that today!!!!)

    Sounds perfectly OK to me, I have used the strangest things as backgrounds for cards. Your desk looks very neat compared to mine.

    The things we do...! I like your light box cncept..it's very similar to mine. A little more technical because it uses a clip...! As for emptying the bin....outa sight, out of mind!!

    Ah, the square window - that takes me back to the happy days of Brian Cant et al - I always hoped it would go through the arched window, not sure what that says about me!!! Love the light box effort too, it helps with taking decent pics, that's for sure :)

    Bins only get emptied here when it is bin day for the house so don't worry about you hiding yours. Thanks for sharing your desk and the interesting way you take photographs.

    I find it so hard to find a spot in my house to take a good photo. I have propped up pieces of cardstock before to make nice grounds and backgrounds, so I totally understand what is going on at your desk today. I like those colored tote bins off to the side.

    I like your way of photographing your work, Helen, really clever. I do like multi-uses for crafting equipment! My Martha Stewart Circle Cutter doubles as a lazy susan for my caddy - I was a long time looking for the right thing and suddenly it came together - both things are exactly the right size for each other!! It's also a cool way to store the circle cutter.

    Thanks for your lovely comment on my blog. Glad you like my mask zentangle! It certainly isn't one to start on, as the original drawing took a long time to get just right, but the zentangles themselves are easy peasy to do and you don't even need to be able to draw - the motto is "one stroke at a time" - all repetitive strokes inside very basic, easy to draw shapes. I definitely recommend you to have a try - go on Youtube and you'll find loads on there to get you started, and see the link in my sidebar for "Tangle Patterns" for masses of step-by-step instructions for doing the different designs. It's soooo much fun!!!
